Quick stir-fry recipes are the perfect solution for preparing a complete and balanced meal in under 20 minutes. This high-heat cooking technique preserves the crispness of the vegetables while developing intense flavors. Whether you choose pork, beef, or chicken, these simple recipes will transform your weeknight dinners into true culinary delights.
The basics of stir-fries: a simple guide
Learning to stir-fry is like learning to cook pasta. Once you've mastered the basic technique, you can create a multitude of different dishes! Here are a few tips for perfectly balancing your stir-fries:
The oil : use a neutral-tasting oil. Any neutral vegetable oil will do (canola, peanut, grapeseed).
Aromatics : every stir-fry needs at least one aromatic ingredient such as garlic, green onions, or ginger. It can be as simple as a single ingredient or as complex as a curry paste.
The sauce : this is where you determine your sweet-salty-sour ratios with soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, or vinegar. For dishes with more sauce, add coconut milk, water, or broth.
The main ingredients : the heart of your stir-fry: meat, vegetables, noodles or rice. Anything edible can be stir-fried!
Although each recipe has its own specific characteristics, stir-fries generally follow these steps:
- Brown the meatFirst, sear the meat to get a nice color, then remove it. You will add it back after the vegetables are cooked.
- Sauté the herbsSauté the aromatics in the oil to infuse it with their flavors. Fresh herbs are always added at the end.
- Add the main ingredients: add meats, vegetables, noodles and rice according to their cooking time.
- Add the saucePour the sauce over the ingredients so they cook and absorb the flavors. Keep water or stock on hand to adjust the consistency if needed.
Of course, each recipe may vary slightly in the order of steps depending on the ingredients used. The important thing is to understand the basic principles and then adapt them to your needs and what you have on hand.
